On 6 March 2025, Mr. OMINATO Satoshi, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Japan in Zambia, visited Prince Takamado School in Bauleni Compound in Lusaka and attended a Japanese national flag raising ceremony.

Prince Takamado School is one of the eight schools built in 1999 by the assistance of the Government of Japan. It was opened in the presence of Their Imperial Highnesses Prince and Princess Takamado and H.E. Mr. Chiluba, then-President of the Republic of Zambia, in December 1999 on the occasion of the visit of Their Imperial Highnesses Prince and Princess Takamado to Zambia. The school was named in honour of Prince Takamado as proposed by the Zambian side. The school currently has approximately 2,700 students attending in four shifts per day.

At the ceremony, Mr. Ominato was welcomed by the students with enthusiastic greetings in Japanese such as “Ohayo gozaimasu” (Good morning) and “Arigato gozaimasu” (Thank you). After the ceremony, Mr. Ominato observed a mathematics class taught by a JICA volunteer, where the students worked hard on their studies. It is our hope that the graduates of Prince Takamado school will become bridges between our two countries
